Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Claim Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now secured the season-opening cup on fourteen different times.

Paris Saint-Germain required a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome their arch-rivals in Kuwait and secure a fourth straight Trophee des Champions title.

The Champions League holders appeared to be sailing towards a comfortable triumph in the match between the Ligue 1 champions and the Coupe de France holders after the French winger opened the scoring in the opening stages.

Yet, Marseille struck two times late to seize a shock advantage. First, Mason Greenwood converted from the spot-kick, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking turn of events, Goncalo Ramos snatched a crucial equaliser in the dying moments to send the match into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, stopping decisive kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and Desire Doue all scored with composure for PSG to seal a 4-1 shootout win.

The record winners PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now won this competition for the 12th time in the last thirteen years.
